Happy Friday to all the “Drive” family out there and welcome to this week’s show!
We’re definitely going to get a little funky on this week’s episode with a dive into the very first, self released, self titled album by Ottawa’s very own “Funk Yo Self”, coming out on vinyl and all formats today!
Funk Yo Self are also on a mini tour to celebrate the release and they will have some of the very limited album on vinyl for sale at tonight’s show at SAW gallery but if you can’t attend you can still support them on their Bandcamp page and coincidentally the release is perfectly timed with this month’s “Bandcamp Friday” (today) and will also be available at many of the fine record shops in town.
You can also check out an interview with flutist and saxophone player Tariq Amery of Funk Yo Self with Joe Reilly on this week’s edition of “The Guest List” available on demand for which I will provide a link in the show’s description.

There will be some heavy sampling from the album with the remainder of the show showcasing some of the funky tunes that surfaced while pulling for tonight.
Hope you all enjoy this week’s offering and thank you for taking the time to tune in whenever and wherever you are.
Keep it locked!

For over a decade, Shub (formerly known as DJ Shub) has been at the forefront of a movement that reshaped the landscape of Indigenous electronic music. A trailblazer who coined the powwow-step genre and a former member of the Juno-winning A Tribe Called Red, Shub has spent years blending the ancient rhythms of powwow music with the pulse of modern beats, scratching, and bass-heavy production. With a new name and vision, Shub is stepping beyond the DJ booth, emerging as a composer, storyteller, and artist dedicated to expanding the reach of Indigenous music. Handsome Tiger, an Anishinaabe Métis and North African music producer/DJ hailing from Turtle Island and currently based in Vancouver, BC, blends traditional sounds from his heritage with other Indigenous and contemporary electronic bass music. His DJ sets fuse various flavors of sound system culture and global club sounds, igniting dance floors wherever he performs. Streaming, Archives & stuff!
