Well that old saying "Even the best laid plans will go awry" sure came true this week when I was chatting with CKCU's very own Chris International. I had a great show all figured out for you folks after about 4 hours of sifting through my Reggae/ Afro and Cuban sections looking for the perfect summer grooves for a friday night when Chris got in touch. He asked if I was going to play "Friday Night August 14th" by Funkedelic on Friday Drive, because...well... how could you not!? He then proceeded to stoke the fire by noting the next time I'd be able to play the song on the show on Friday August 14th is 2037. Chris is right of course.... but the song did not jive with my intended mix. What was I to do? Start over of course the day before the show. And here you have it: a show that leans heavily towards the hard psychedelic edge that defined Funkedelic without loosing track of the the funk in delic. It's not all squeeling guitars though, there is some calm thrown in to help you get home in one piece. Happy Weekend all, let the games begin.
