Friday June 5th, 2026 with Nick Williams
Sonny Rollins Tribute

With Sonny Rollins’ passing last week at the age of 95 we lost one of the last members of the jazz elite that had been around seemingly since the dawn of time. A living legend and one of the final links that bound us to a time when the jazz cats were the coolest kids on the block and displayed a mastery of their instruments that only a few could ever hope to achieve, Sonny Rollins was the consummate perfectionist that was always reaching beyond, grasping for that spark of creativity that would ignite the truth he sought. Sonny was an inspiration on several levels for me. He chose to step away from the spotlight several times during his career and woodshed, practicing his instrument relentlessly until he was satisfied with himself before performing again. He taught me that art in its purest form is non commercial and at its core an act of self care. He also kicked a heroin addiction in his twenties using one of the very first methadone treatment programs. He never went back, living another seventy years. In an environment where drugs were viewed by many folks as an essential stepping stone to artistic enlightenment, Sonny proved he could do without. Today we pay tribute to one of the greatest jazz men ever, and an elder who’s wisdom was accrued over close to a century of constant learning. The show will focus on Sonny’s early years as a sideman with Miles Davis, then his first times as leader with Prestige and then moving into his Blue Note years and beyond.

Boogát is a staple of Quebec’s world music scene, known for his consistently festive and innovative style, blend of genres—ranging from hip-hop to modern Latin American music, electro, and more traditional styles—has earned him acclaim both at home and abroad.

Titled Del Horizonte (in English: “Beyond the Horizon”), the new show takes the festive aspect of the performance even further, with video projections that enhance the show’s interactivity and a staging that reinforces universal messages of love, communion, and acceptance of differences. It directly addresses the themes of a changing Quebec, its inevitable immigration, the importance of keeping the spirit of rebellion alive, and rallying to the decolonial movement already underway.

All in Spanish, with musicians who combine traditional and digital instruments (from a trio to a quintet). To make you dance, but also to make you think; a guaranteed fiesta!

Buckle up, bass heads — we’re setting a course for the Bass Station.

Bass Station is a new Ottawa event series from SpaceCamp, built for the deeper side of Drum & Bass. From jungle and liquid to neurofunk and halftime, our DJs explore the full spectrum of DnB while keeping things deep, dark, and weighty.

At the center of the experience is the Subrooted Sound System — a one-of-a-kind, Ottawa-built custom rig designed to deliver a clean, chest-rattling low end alongside crisp mids and highs. Rooted in sound system culture, every tune is tuned for impact, immersion, and feel as much as volume!

Bass Station is for the dancers, bass heads, jungle lovers, and anyone curious about a different side of drum & bass — one driven by energy, atmosphere, and connection. Through SpaceCamp’s community-focused underground approach, this night aims to grow a new pocket of bass culture in the city, one session at a time.

We’re proud to welcome T-23, MARÈVA, ZENZO and SOKOTTA for this inaugural edition of Bass Station!

Powered by SUBROOTED SOUND SYSTEM.

As with all SpaceCamp events - this is a consent-forward, inclusive, body-positive, queer-affirming space.

Come to dance. Come to connect. Come to feel. Come to play.

The musicians gained attention in the early 2010s playing jazz covers of tracks by the likes of and . BBNG (2011) and BBNG2 (2012), their first two records, further developed that approach with reinterpretations of songs by and as well as and . III (2014), their last fully instrumental LP for a decade, gave them their commercial breakthrough; it crowned Billboard's Contemporary Jazz Albums chart and became the first of many BBNG projects nominated for Canada's Polaris Music Prize. The collaborative IV (2016) brought in guests ranging from frontman to saxophonist and marked the band's Canadian chart debut. Talk Memory (2021), their third straight number one on the Contemporary Jazz Albums chart, explored fusion, new age, and orchestral influences with string arrangements from . Their Instrumental sixth album, Mid Spiral (2024), originally issued as three themed digital EPs, resulted from a week of recordings with several auxiliary players. In addition to their own albums, BadBadNotGood have shared bills with the likes of rap legend (Sour Soul), post-hardcore group (New Heart Designs), and contemporary soul singer (Slow Burn). Celebrating global music, diversity, and culture through three unforgettable days of rhythm, connection, and world-class performances in the heart of Ottawa.

GUISS GUISS BOU BESS (Senegal / France)

A powerful urban sound is emerging from Dakar, Senegal - Guiss Guiss Bou Bess is a groundbreaking live group that fuses electronic music with the deep traditions of Senegalese culture creating an electrifying and immersive live experience unlike anything else.

Formed by singer, slammer, and percussionist Mara Seck, French beat-maker Stéphane Costantini, and master sabar percussionist Papa Assane Samba, the group blends dance, percussion, spirituality, costume, and hypnotic rhythms into a bold and contemporary celebration of Senegalese identity.

At the heart of this unique musical experience is the sabar — Senegal’s iconic percussion tradition — transformed through electronic textures into a vibrant, high-energy sound that bridges tradition and innovation, ancestry and futurism.

Celebrating global music, diversity, and culture through three unforgettable days of rhythm, connection, and world-class performances in the heart of Ottawa.

SURARAS DO TAPAJÓS (Brazil / Amazonia)

Direct from the Brazilian Amazon, Suraras do Tapajós is Brazil’s first all-Indigenous women’s carimbó group, bringing to the stage a powerful celebration of ancestry, resistance, nature, and women’s leadership.

Formed in 2018, the group emerged as a bold expression of Indigenous women’s voices, echoing far beyond their territories through music, storytelling, and activism. Through original songs and beloved rhythms from the Amazon region, the Suraras sing about women’s rights, environmental protection, the defense of Indigenous territories, and the preservation of ancestral knowledge.

Their performances are vibrant, joyful, and deeply moving — blending the rhythms of carimbó, one of Pará’s most beloved cultural traditions, with the sounds, stories, and musicality of the forest. The stage becomes a living celebration of Indigenous women’s experiences, strength, and connection to the land.

For the first time in Ottawa, audiences will experience this extraordinary and rare group direct from one of the most remote regions of Brazil — a truly unforgettable cultural encounter.
