Women In Music This International Women’’’s Day, Friday Drive on CKCU will feature a special women-led takeover as part of the 50th anniversary of Reggae in the Fields. The show will include DJ sets by DJ Karyen, DJ Velevet, and DJ spexialKay, with moderator Emily Young and veteran CKCU host Selali Ayitey-Wallace. Blending music with conversation, the program will highlight the work, experiences, and perspectives of women DJs in Caribbean and reggae music spaces. The discussion will explore how each DJ got started, what the role means to them, and what it is like to work in a field that has often been male-dominated. The panel will also examine broader questions about women in nightlife, music culture, identity, and representation, especially within Caribbean communities. As part of the ongoing celebration of 50 years of Reggae in the Fields, this special broadcast honours both the program’s legacy and the women helping shape its future. It will be a chance for listeners to enjoy great music while hearing thoughtful discussion about culture, community, and change.
