Happy Friday “Drivers” fam and welcome to this week’s show!
The “Riddim Twins” are now reunited in the astral plane after a little over five years since we lost Robert Warren Dale Shakespeare better known as “Robbie”, with the passing of his percussive partner Lowell Fillmore Dunbar better known as Sly Dunbar this past Monday on January 26.
It was a bit of a challenge narrowing down what to feature on this week’s show with Sly having nearing 4000 credits to his name, from Bob Dylan to Herbie Hancock, Bill Laswell, Grace Jones, Fela, Manu Dibango and Larry Levan to name a few, without even mentioning his massive contribution to the Reggae community from roots to dub and dancehall.
Full disclosure is that this week’s show will barely scratch the surface of Sly Dunbar’s contribution to the global music community and I’m simply going to run through some favourite selections for the duration and hopefully provide some much needed heat to the dead of winter.
I also wanted to provide a little disclaimer that I’ve hopefully credited today’s playlist properly as it was tricky to confirm some of the recordings featured in today’s broadcast so do forgive any mistakes I may have made.
You can all expect a nice dose of Roots Reggae, dub and a little Dancehall with some Disco and a touch of electronica vibes during the show with the usual slow start in the first hour to unwind you all from the week that was while taking things up a tad in hour two to wind up the weekend to celebrate Sly Dunbar's contributions to humanity.
Kicking things off with the title track from Israel Vibration’s “The Same Song” to get things rolling.
Happy listening, thank you all for taking the time and hope you enjoy this week’s offering.
Keep it locked!

The sounds have gone from Disco to Freestyle to House to Techno; the venues have gone from Studio 54 to Palladium to Sound Factory and Pacha to Output; and the borough to dance in has gone from Manhattan to Brooklyn. But there has been one element in the community that has been able to survive the ever–evolving landscape, and that is the DJ. Not many of course, but a few talented, Inspired DJ / Artists have remained at the forefront of the industry during this time. One of those is Hector Romero. Born and raised in The Bronx, Hector’s DJ experiences include playing legendary venues like Red Zone, Limelight, Palladium, Save The Robots, The Roxy, Cielo and Output. Over the years he has evolved into one of New York City’s prime ambassadors of House music, bringing his unique Soulful and Latin inspired House vibe to venues around the world. With 40+ years of experience this career jock is now throwing his musical diversity and eclectic taste as a sought-after A&R in the music business. Under his belt are various mix compilations that he has curated, King Street’s “Soulful House Journey”, Nervous Record’s “Weaving Genres” Vol.1 & 2. These projects showcase Hector’s abilities not only as a DJ but as an A&R exec that has an ear for quality music. He attributes his business savvy by having worked with industry legend Judy Weinstein during his 20 plus years at Def Mix Productions. This is where he matured as a record executive working alongside Grammy awards winning DJs David Morales, Frankie Knuckles and Satoshi Tomiie. Those relationships taught him essential lessons about the equal importance of a great beat and a great song. Currently Hector acts as A&R Director of Orianna Music, a Latin Electronic boutique label owned and operated by Sony Music, a position he truly loves. Although New York is still his home, Hector spends a great deal of time traveling where he can be found stirring up dance floors in Italy, Greece, Japan, Spain, Canada and various parts of the world. http://www.facebook.com/hectorromeronyc https://www.facebook.com/defmixproductions/ http://twitter.com/DJHectorRomero Soundcloud http://soundcloud.com/hectorromero http://instagram.com/hectorromero/ W/ LOCAL SUPPORT FROM: RICK LAPLANTE QUEENYY SATURDAY, JANUARY 31, 2026 AT 12 - 5 PM SYSTEME feat. It is hard to celebrate when thinking of the loss with the passing of Sly Dunbar. But he lived his life in celebration and he would expect no less from us. Thank you once again, Trevor, for compiling this tribute to one of the most influential musicians of our generation and the generations that have followed us.
