We talk to Adam Wiltzie of A Winged Victory for the Sullen about their music and their show Sept. 26th in Montreal
If you're a regular listener you know I LOVE talking to artists about their musical creations. But every now and then I have the amazing pleasure of talking to an artist whom I truly admire and that is the case this week, when I get the chance to share with you my interview with Adam Wiltzie.
Adam is composer and musician who currently records with his friend and musical partner Dustin O'Halloran in A Winged Victory For The Sullen. They are coming to Montreal to perform on Saturday, September 26th at the Rialto Theatre as part of Pop Montreal.
Adam Wiltzie is in some circles best known for his work as a founder of the seminal ambient drone group Stars of the Lid – releasing 7 acclaimed albums between 1995 and 2007. He also worked on projects such as The Dead Texan, and in 2011 formed the acclaimed ambient, post-classical duo A Winged Victory for the Sullen with Dustin O’Halloran. They have released four studio albums and a couple of film scores, and both Wiltizie and O’Halloran have released lots of beautiful music under their own names.
Together as A Winged Victory for the Sullen, Wiltize and O’Halloran have produced music to accompany film, dance and a multi-media theatre production. Adam has also worked with the acclaimed Icelandic composer Johann Johannsson, and Adam tells us about a new project coming out in September that features the music of Johannsson.
A Winged Victory for the Sullen doesn’t play in our neck of the woods very often and was scheduled to play in Montreal in April of 2020… and we all know that happened to concerts back in the year 2020 due to the COVID pandemic. So it was with great joy that I read recently that the group would be coming to Montreal this Fall.
I was also very happy that Adam Wiltzie agreed to do an interview for CKCU to let Ottawa fans of their music know about this Pop Montreal appearance.
The show today is dedicated to that interview and the music of A Winged Victory for the Sullen.
