It is always a pleasure to talk to Mimi O'Bonsawin about her beautiful, life-affirming music. She is about to release a new album, Evoke, on August 28th. We talk about some of the soul searching that has gone into the songs on this recording and how her connection to others and to the natural world, influence her creative process. We also talk about how it is important for her to include a song that is sung in her Indigenous language on this new album. Mimi is performing at Redbird Live on August 28th: https://www.showpass.com/mimi-obonsawin/ And at the Shenkman Arts Centre on October 14th: https://shenkmanarts.ca/en/she-carries-song For more information about Mimi: https://www.mimi.ca/ We also talk to Chris Smith, Ian Winkler, James Turner and James Porter of the Vancouver band Meltt. The groups released its third album, Pathways, in June and will be performing at the 27 Club on Monday, August 24th. We talk about the layered and textured sound of the group and how all four members write lyrics for their songs.
