Music Journalism 101
April 2 - March 21
National Arts Centre, 1 Elgin St.
Price: registration required

Girls+ Rock Ottawa and Apt613 present Music Journalism 101, an intensive eight-week workshop that will provide training and mentorship for aspiring music journalists (Yes, you!) to increase representation in music journalism.

Through Music Journalism 101, you will learn the foundations of music journalism. Each week we’ll focus on a different aspect of writing, giving you all of the building blocks and confidence to write music reviews, conduct great interviews, take concert photos, and become a freelance music journalist.

In addition, receive a Music Journalism Toolkit that includes a Music Journalism Workbook, additional resources, handouts, and yes, homework assignments!

At the end of the workshop, you’ll have access to continued mentoring to help you build your writing portfolio, with an opportunity to become a regular contributor to Apt613 and the Girls+ Rock Ottawa blog.

This workshop will be taught by Adella Khan, the former Managing Editor of Ottawa Beat, an online and print music publication, as well as a member of the City of Ottawa’s Music Strategy Task Force. Adella is a graduate of Carleton University’s renowned School of Journalism.
