Electronic Medit-eh-tion

Electronic meditation, eh? Make sure not to take off for the next two hours, so you can listen to some nice homegrown material!

Paraphonique is the recording name of Nicolas L. from Gatineau/Saguenay. In his own words, "Exploring a miniature mansion filled with wild creatures, cryptic puzzles and strange paintings. I make these tracks in my hidden basement studio in Québec, Canada." He has put out two EPs on the Low Noise Productions label, currently available digitally on Bandcamp as well as in cassette format. There is a good mix of older and newer electronic music influences here.

Sinoia Caves is a solo project by Jeremy Schmidt of Black Mountain. The soundtrack for Beyond the Black Rainbow was recorded in 2009/2010 but not released until 2014, on a very trendy clear vinyl. I have played material from the first Sinoia Caves but somehow didn't get around to this one yet, so here is the first side!

Sequential Dreams is one of the many project of Kuutana, alter ego of Ron Charron who releases music through the Border's Edge label. Sequential Dreams focuses on electronic-inspired instrumental music and this album is their sixth. Kuutana frequently collaborates with other electronic musicians on different pieces. Here are two tracks from the album. You can get all Border's Edge music at their bandcamp site.

Next up is Robert T., a gentleman from New Brunswick who started creating electronic music as a way to deal with anxiety. His material is reminiscent of both ambient and minimalist music, with interesting tones. I'm going to play two of the tree tracks from his Tower EP (released February 2015), which is available on Low Noise Productions.

Now we will move to some more electro-acoustic and avant-garde territory. We'll start with Dionne-Brégent, the combination of Vincent Dionne (percussion) and Michel-Georges Brégent (keys) who released two albums in the 1970s. Their first album is more abstract and imposing than the second ("Deux"), being somewhat closer to Brégent's electro-acoustic classical work at times. I have not played it previously so here are the pieces that make up the l'Eveil de Lieu suite.

We will close off by chilling out with Michael Brook, who has prolifically produced film scores and library music over his career. I picked up this album specifically to play it for you guys and then haven't managed to, so here are the closing tracks. This was recorded live with just a guitar (using his repeating-guitar technique) and synthesizer.
