Musica diversa para el inicio de Año Nuevo

We have lost one of the very best (words by Matthew Crosier, CKCU Station Manager) Hello, This week I found out that long time CKCU host, Mark Valcour passed away. This news comes as a tremendous shock. Only a few weeks ago he was his usual vibrant self in my office asking about my holiday plans. Mark was associated with the station right from the beginning. He was our Production Manager for several years and would later work at 54 Rock as an Assistant Engineer. In 1984 Mark was hired by Algonquin College to teach Advanced Production Techniques in their Radio Program. In 1986 Mark was hired as the full-time Radio Technologist for The Carleton School of Journalism. Positions he held until his death. Since 1984, he operated his own audio production company called Sound Output, he provided sound at 1000's of concerts in the Ottawa area. And he hosted a once a month radio show on CKCU where he played the many concerts he recorded. He had a great ear. He worked hard. He helped people all the time. He was a really good person. He made the best of some serious health challenges. He was racing from place to place, with a smile and a spring in his step. He was charging around hoisting heavy equipment at the end of a long night, after he had finished a full day job. He was the audio Energizer bunny. He loved what he did and he did it well. If you were at any CKCU event: concerts. anniversaries etc, he was probably doing the sound. He always came through for us and went above and beyond anything we asked of him, He taught me and 100's if not 1000's of people everything about audio. He taught me to hear, to listen to details. He was amazing. I can't believe he is gone. He was one of the very best.
