Welcome to another addition of THIS ISLAND EARTH, CKCU's weekly program (Sunday 1-4 pm) dedicated to great music from all over the globe. This week we feature mainly new releases that have caught me ear and we'll start off with a new release from the legendary Angolan artist, Bonga. From there we branch off far and wide and feature pieces from Brazil, the U.S. Southwest, Cuba, Trinidad and Tobago, Syria, Egypt, Italy, France, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Finland, Mali, Gambia, Burkina Faso, etc. and will draw on a couple of new and exciting compilation albums. Woah! That Real Rio recording sounds fantastic. Will have to look into it. I just love 30 track comps.... Sitting on the back porch in the sun and a light jacket, watching the squirrels 'bask' in the sun, and birds chow down on a sumac in our back yard.

Especially when you have some funky steel pan fusiony music to listen to. PB, that's Sundays between 1 and 4 (FOUR) , not 3. C'mon brother. Mais cuts through the cheese and presents edgy Brazilian music. Everything they put out is gold.

Hi PeterB, Oh I wish I wish! No rest for the wicked! That was a nice little mini-vacation heard on last week's T.I.E. (John McLaughlin--Remembering Shakti). Lovely! BTW, I didn't know that world music had that effect on squirrels--who knew?
