An Indian Morning
Sunday August 20th, 2017 with Dr. Harsha V. Dehejia and Kishore "Kish" Sampat
The first 30 minutes of the program features classical, religious as well as regional and popular music. The second one hour features community announcements and ear pleasing music from old/new & popular Indian films.

An Indian Morning celebrates not only the music of India but equally its various arts and artisans, poets and potters, kings and patriots. The ethos of the program is summarized by its signature closing line, "Seeking the spirit of India, Jai Hind". Good Morning and Welcome to “An Indian Morning”. As you all know, India’s 70th Anniversary of Independence and 71st Independence Day celebrations have been going on in Ottawa since August 11 and culminating today with 2nd India Day Parade. The Parade will start at Bank and Wellington and finishing at City Hall. The flag hosting will be performed at 11:30 am which will be followed by cultural programs. Come forward, stay together to celebrate India’s Independence Day. Come in your traditional dress and if you have a flag of India, you are encouraged to bring with you. It will be appropriate to greet and worship our motherland, “INDIA – BHARAT” on such an occasion. Let’s worship our motherland, let’s greet our motherland with our body and soul. हम करें आराघन, तन मन घन से.. 01-HUM KAREN RASHTRA AARADHAN MISC-20170820 Track#01 4:36 CHANAKYA-1991; Students of Takshshila Vishwa Vidyalaya; Asit Desai; Jaishankar Prasad https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvYKFJMMENg Don’t take this as the official version, but the Mumbai-based comedy group East India Comedy has a hilarious account of how India got all its states. In an Independence Day special titled The State of India, they explain how the count got its current “29 states, seven Union Territories, 1500 CCDs, three billion potholes...and one Arnab Goswami.” Treating the formation of some of the new states like break-ups between lovers or between parents and children, the cheeky humour in the video culminates in a song inspired from the Lego Movie soundtrack, which goes: “Everything is Assaaam! Everything is cool when we are a country! Everything is awesome, because we’re bharatwaasi.” Can’t argue with that. 02-EIC THE STATE OF INDIA MISC-20170820 Track#02 6:07 EIC-2015; East India Comedy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdstYkuQrgw&list=LLt0Gys2BDxFRuy-fBRj5Kcg&index=23 तन गोरा हो या काल, पर हो सच्चा दिलवाला चांदी नहीं, सोना नहीं, कोई हिरा दिल जिसका हिंदुस्तानी, नहीं कोई इंग्लिश्तानी रात और दिन मुझे, प्यार कोई करने वाला मेड इन इंडिया, मेड इन इंडिया, एक दिल चाहिए दैट्स मेड इन इंडिया 03-MADE IN INDIA MISC-20170820 Track#03 4:19 MADE IN INDIA-1995; Alisha Chinai; Biddu; Shyam Anuragi https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvloHsmi_vg 04-I LOVE MY INDIA MISC-20170820 Track#04 7:27 PARDES-1997; Hariharan, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Aditya Narayan; Nadeem-Shravan; Anand Bakshi https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwwH6PK5xk8 The India Poised initiative was launched in January 2007 by the Times of India Group. It celebrated India's successes and its growing importance on the global radar, but also conducted a critical assessment of sectors where India failed to deliver. If you have listened to any of Gulzar's narrations, you will understand why his words have so much 'wazan' (weight). Gulzar is surely a genius and a pukka Kalakar as he is sankeee (crazy) as once he had burnt all his poems. God, we must have lost lots of splendid penned poems in that impulsive act of his. But I am sure, that incidence must have rejuvenated the Gulzar that we read, listen and see today! My personal favorite Gulzar lyrics are. Aye Zindagee Gale Laga Le (Sadmaa) There can be very few songs which match the calibre of this song, especially the words. This song speaks out about the attitude that Gulzar has towards life, and surely tells us that life has lot of things in store to offer us and it totally depends on how we look at it! 08-AYE ZINDAGI GALE LAGA LE MISC-20170820 Track#07 5:12 SADMAA-1983; Suresh Wadekar; Illyaraja; Gulzar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BXqAnZWqdQ Tere Bina Zindageese Koi (Aandhi) This is one of the masterpeices of the Pancham-Gulzar combination. I feel that the both have lived this song. They have experienced the song in their lives and that’s why, it is full of such a spontaneity. Don't you feel like loving someone to such an extent that that 'someone' becomes the reason of your existence!? 09-TERE BINA ZINDAGI SE MISC-20170820 Track#09 7:02 AANDHI-1975; Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar; R.D.Burman; Gulzar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-HnmVg0-O8 Aanewala Pal Janewala Hai (Golmaal) What a thought.? The imagination of a 'moment' falling out of 'time', just like a pearl dropping down from a necklace (remember the video of Kuch Na Kaho from 1942- A Love story). only a genius can think of such lines! Hats off to Gulzar saheb! Well friends, those who have loved someone in life, know how painful it is to wait for your loved one and to express your feelings to the 'someone'. This song composed and rendered by Hemant Kumar is one of my favorite ones. You can feel the song penetrating straight through your heart and can feel the same thing when we see a candle light melting the wax which exhibits how the desire to love someone is as pure as the flame and the feeling is so soft and free flowing like the melting wax! Sometimes I feel that Gulzar's lyrics are too heavy for commom man and only people who have a philosophical approach towards life tend to digest them (check me if I am wrong guys). Especially this song is a song which has to be experienced in life and then only one can feel what Gulzar wants to say. This song is sure for matured ones! 12-TUJHSE NAARAZ NAHIN ZINDAGI MISC-20170820 Track#12 6:03 MASOOM-1983; Anup Ghoshal; R.D.Burman; Gulzar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZ_YUOr-tYw Musafir Hoon Yaro (Parichay) This is a gem of a song as the movie was also penned by Gulzar Saheb and well apne Panchamda has to be involved! This song reminds me of the peom Vagabond, by Robert Louis Stevenson, and his lines: Let the blow fall soon or late, Let what will be o'er me; Give the face of earth around, And the road before me. Wealth I ask not, hope nor love, Nor a friend to know me; All I ask, the heaven above, And the road below me. And now these lines from Gulzar. “An Indian Morning” के तमाम श्रोताओं की तरफ से उन्हें जन्मदिन की ढेरों शुभकामनाएं! 14-JAI HO MISC-20170820 Track#14 3:00 SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE-2008; A.R.Rahman, Sukhwinder Singh, Tanvi, Mahalakshmi Iyer, Vijay Prakash; A.R.Rahman; Guzlar, Tanvi https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwwAVRyNmgQ THE END समाप्त
