Reggae Unites The World (Pt.2)

Thank you for tuning into Vintage Love. Tonight we delve into the world of covers and Reggae Music. I planned a show just like this one 8 years ago in 2006, a show called "Reggae Vs. The World". In that show, I played the original or popular version of a song that was covered in a Reggae style and then a Reggae version immediately following. People often ask, why do Reggae artists record and perform cover versions so much? And one of the reasons is that looking back at the history of Jamaican music and its influences, many of those influences came from outside of the island. This show (and the first version in 2006) showcases some of the popular orignal songs and the popular Reggae cover versions. The motto of Jamaica, "Out Of Many, One People", is truly applicable to Jamaican music as well which has become popular world-wide in large part because of the recycling of many genres of music such as Pop, Rock, Country, R&B and others. I hope you enjoy/ed this musical journey into the phenomenon of covers in the world of Reggae music. Song Of The Week: Passenger/D-Major - "Let Her Go" @ 53:05 of the show. All the best to you, :-) O'shea Adagio Vintage Love ckcuvintagelove Vintage Love info@vintagelove.net CKCUFM.COM

Well I get questions all the time as to why there are so many cover version in Reggae music and there certainly is a history there as to where this comes from. Reggae music born in beautiful Jamaica but truly the worlds music.

The song "Stay with Me", by Sam Smith (which is currently #2 on the Top 40), has a reggae cover version to it, done by Romain Virgo. So whenever you can, it would be nice to hear it on the VL show. Have a great week. Stay warm!
