Certain DISCO records provided just plain fun. We have selected some of the examples of DISCO records that took the listener on some kind of journey. We are calling it all 'ludicrous travels' because some of these examples took the listener to places to discover historical figures that didn't exist, or may have never existed. Some songs celebrate exotic foreign activities. Others take us into the past of certain places like the New York City area. Still others are about getting to places or are musical and lyrical commentaries of places. These were records made for discotheque dancing. What were the artists trying to accomplish?
Warning some of this music is silly. Don't ever forget that DISCO can be silly! It is part of the charm of it all.

This broadcast featured JACK JONES, ARETHA FRANKLIN, EL COCO, THE RITCHIE FAMILY, MAX BERLINS, AMANDA LEAR, LA BIONDA, AZOTO, MURRAY HEAD, TACO, ARMY OF LOVERS, THE TYRREL CORPORATION.ELORIOUS CAINComing up on The Groove on Sat. Many sources insist that it appeared in the late 1970's and thrived into the late 1980's. Yet examples of the sound can be found as early as the late 1960's and many CITI POP artists have sold millions of records in the 1990's, right up until current days. Artists like TATSURO YAMASHITA are still very popular.
It is important to point out that not all Japanese JAZZ and DISCO is considered to be CITI POP. Groups like MIDNIGHT POWERS and the widely influential YELLOW MAGIC ORCHESTRA are excellent examples of Japanese artists that are not considered to be such.
For many young adults throughout the planet CITI POP is considered to be the "new cool" with computer online social media sites like YOU TUBE, TIK TOK and INSTAGRAM spreading it. Some sources suggest that CITI POP may be more popular now then it was 40 years ago.
We begin with some material from TOSHINORI KONDO who, like DJ KRUSH and the group JAZZTRONIC, is not really a CITI POP artist. It had especially spooked chief profiler Dora Fuentes. For the first time in her 21 year career she was stumped. She really didn't like that interview with Jacob Samuel. She didn't like that way he would eventually disappear.
Even with her busy schedule, she would find time to regularly visit the recovering Emily Brisk at the North Shore University Hospital.
Nancy recalls a visit to her sister where she had glowing comments about the visits from Ms. Fuentes,
" Ms. Fuentes is wonderful! I love her visits.
Ms. Fuentes doesn't come to question my story or anything!
I tell her that I can't talk about what happened to me.
She completely understands!
She just gives me moral support.
It is part of an outreach program to assist F.B.I. family members affected by cases.
She said that she wants to help me fully heal from the whole ordeal!"

Nancy remembers how she couldn't tell Emily that agents were guarding her 24 hours a day because there was a tangible possibility that another attempt would be made on her life. One agent even suggested that an attempt might be imminent! She knew that Dora Fuentes was one of the F.B.I's best profilers. There must have been more going on. She also didn't tell Emily that protocole dictated that she wasn't part of the task force any longer. She was too personally close to it. She was back in the Boston office working on white collar crimes.

Two months after that visit, Dora Fuentes would suddenly appear at Nancy's desk in Boston offering her a glossy photograph. Dora smiled and said,
" You deserve a copy of this also, Special Agent Brisk"
The photograph contained Nancy, her fiance Tom, Emily and some young teenager standing and looking ahead. Printed below each image there were the names of each person, with the exception of the teenager who was simply identified as "unknown person!!". Nancy freaked for a second before asking:
"Where did you get this picture?
I don't even remember posing for it!!"
Dora quickly asked Nancy,
"Do you know who that teenager is?"
Nancy:
"Of course I do! That is that 'Charmaine' girl that ended up causing so much havoc!"
Dora informed Nancy that she was the only other person apart from Emily that could identify the girl. The photograph was from The Department Of Homeland Security and it had been taken at some touristic spot in Manhattan like One World Trade Center. It was gifted to the F.B.I. Evidently the folks at Homeland Security spent weeks trying to identify that girl to absolutely no avail! Nobody there was impressed.
When Dora gave Emily a copy of the photograph there was evidently a sudden transformation. Emily couldn't shut up about the whole experience, Charmaine, everything. Emily kept excitedly going on about the fact she finally had a picture of 'Charmaine'. With Emily's consent, Dora had recorded over 30 hours of descriptions and observations about that other America.
Dora was also there in Boston with Special Agent Orin Bishop and Special Agent Mark Richardson who were already interviewing people and searching for evidence at the South Bay Center. Nancy just had to ask Dora,
"Are you really going to help Emily fully heal from the whole ordeal? Or was that just a tactic?
Emily is my skin and blood. Apart from Tom, she is all I have!
I'm afraid of loosing her!
I honestly don't know how to help Emily.
There's no information out there about how to help victims of interdimensional travel!
This could mark her for life!
I'm really worried that she'll never heal from this."
Dora escorted Nancy to private lounge at the Boston office and comforted and encouraged her. Dora was very much interested in helping Emily completely heal. She also started briefing Nancy:
" I can spot a liar a mile away. It is my business to spot dishonesty or even the hint of exaggeration. I believe everything that Emily says about her experiences in that other America. The information is extremely valuable to the whole investigation.
What I cannot accept is that radio she had. How did she get it?! It bothers me intensely!"
Nancy quickly interjected:
" I bought her an identical radio to that at that mall the day she returned! She practically begged me to buy for her."
Dora added:
"And according to Emily it ended up being the very same radio she had in that other America. That doesn't make any sense at all! This whole business about that radio disturbs me. How could you buy Emily the very same radio she acquired in that other America here at the South Bay Center? That, according to everything we now know is impossible!
I firmly believe that Emily ended up on some island in the Atlantic in that other world. How did she get there? How did that radio get there? Somebody put that radio there? Are these people responsible for putting Emily there? That is too strange to accept. It is like a tell of something else that is potentially devious and malicious. We have come to get and examine that radio. I need you to take me to Emily's condo so that we can retrieve it and search for any leads.
I believe that Emily is just an innocent victim. I have a hunch that Emily's experiences are just part of something bigger and more dangerous! The F.B.I. has to work hard and fast to solve it. We may not have very much time."
As Dora was saying that, Nancy felt an ice cold chill running down her spine.

This broadcast featured PHILIP WERREN, THE ADVISORY CIRCLE, SCHUTTLE, YAGYA, THE HAXAN CLOAK, COLLAGE NOIRE, SIGUR ROS with STEINDOR ANDERSON, HILMAR ÖRN HILMARSSON and MARIA HULD MARKAN SIGFUSDOTTTIR, EDS, REDHANDEDJILL, GRAY, BORDERLINE PERSONALITY, FLASH!, BRIAN GREENE, MASSIVE ATTACK, HOPE SANDOVAL & THE WARM INVENTIONS, THE CARETAKER, PAMELA MEYER, SHLOHMO, ENO / WOBBLE.Elorious CainComing up on The Groove on Sat. Based in Germany, his principal focus was on that market where he produced a multitude of Pop and Disco recordings for a long list of artists in both German and English. Never really doing well as a solo artist, he excelled as a visionary producer!
All that said, FRANK FARIAN was not too distant from the controversies that troubled the Eurodisco industry. BONEY M. was panned for not being a real "caporeal group". The same issues with his marketing of the group MILLI VANILLI plagued him in the 1980's. None of that criticism was really fair. FRANK FARIAN was a remarkable producer responsible for lighting up the lives of people around the planet and selling hundreds of millions of records! Although she now lives and works as a professional dancer in Toronto, she took on the task of organising the list of announcers to fill in for me during this 3 month absence! She managed the situation and contacted potential candidates, coordinating it with DAVE ARDVARK at CKCU here in Ottawa!
When CHARLOTTE came to Ottawa to spend sometime for Christmas, she took the time to do a very popular episode of The Groove herself on December 30 that featured a variety of new styles including some amazing AFROBEATS recordings!

I can't tell you how much so many of us at CKCU appreciate DAVE's tireless efforts to maintain a continuity here at the station! DAVE was also instrumental in keeping The Groove on the air during that difficult period. DAVE ARDVARK is one of the best Program Directors CKCU has ever had.
