"THE HOLY GRAIL" - 36 YEARS OF BLACK DEVIL DISCO CLUB PRODUCTIONS IN 2 HOURS

THE HOLY GRAIL _______________ BLACK DEVIL became extremely important to millions of enthusiasts of Electronic Disco throughout the world. It became the ultimate underground legend. It was our 'holy grail'! Teenagers everywhere were excited by electronics in Disco yet they found it difficult to satisfy their need for the advancing style in the booming late 1970's. Sure there were certain gems like Giorgio Moroder's "The Chase", "Evolution" and "I Feel Love" with Donna Summer. There was also Space, Quartz and Jean Michel Jarre. But these young people found themselves starving for intriquing and challenging Electronic Disco in a sea of syrupy and lavish sex obsessed commercial Disco combinations. When the BLACK DEVIL LP "DISCO CLUB" appeared in 1978 everything changed forever! That first BLACK DEVIL LP had a deliciously disturbing black cover with bold green letters and an illustration of an alluring mythical creature complete with bold red wings. So much of a statement was just the cover itself that people found themselves staring at it with an eerie mix of revulsion and curiosity. Many European teenagers initially bought it, just because the cover was demanding and mysterious. The music would expand their worlds in ways they never imagined. It offered six mixed compositions of brilliant Electronic Disco that were dark, emotionally complex and stunningly unique. Some American teenagers thought that it must have been secretly produced by Giorgio Moroder. It was actually produced and recorded in a basement by one exceptionally gifted young man named Bernard Fevre. Fevre had more talent and vision than so many of the disco producers around him who were pumping out overproduced and predictable garbage. The more we listened to that album the deeper our obsession grew. Black Devil had a deep majesty in every beat and every vague or distorted vocal. Thousands of young minds offered their own personal interpretations. No other record offered so much personal freedom and inner strength. The only proper way to listen to Black Devil, for many, was to: wait for the complete darkness of the night, turn out every light and play the whole Black Devil album very loud while laying on the floor and staring into the darkness. It was the Electronic Disco underground's holy grail. Tragically Bernard Fevre was misinformed as to how extremely important and monumental his record had become. Such greedy trickery destroyed one of the most astronomical opportunities in the history of Disco. As the 1980's saw the rise of disco genres like SynthPop, Industrial, Freestyle Electro, Techno and Acid House so many writers in music publications incorrectly implied that the first intellegent Electronic music had started with groups and producers in early 1980's. The real Disco hardcore had been isolated, blacklisted or completely dismissed. Few of us remained strong enough to argue that there was Black Devil and others long before those new artists had even started recording. The disgusting antiDisco politics of the 1980's had began to attempt to erase any memory of what had been accomplished during the 1970's. A whole generation was being deliberately lied to. After the British Techno label Rephlex reissued the tracks from that first Black Devil album in 2004, Fevre became inspired to start producing what he had to call BLACK DEVIL DISCO CLUB. Several impressive BLACK DEVIL DISCO CLUB albums have been released on the European label LO RECORDINGS. They complement The Holy Grail.
