Interviews with Little Coyote, Outside I'm a Giant and Vikings

We start the show off talking to Teagan Johnston of Little Coyote. She had just arrived at House of Targ where she is playing tonight (May 4.) We talk about her decision to move to Toronto and to form Little Coyote (she had previously released music under her own name) and then move on to discussing the serious nature of her music - perhaps comparable at times to British group Daughter. The band has a big, dramatic sound at times but the songs also break down nicely in simple acoustic sessions that you can find online. We start off playing the song Point Comfort, which is about a beautiful tiny town located between Gatineau and Maniwaki, nestled between two lakes. We talk about the importance of place in Jeremi's songs and about the basic folk approach the group takes. Jeremi also shares his admiration for First Nation's culture and how he pays tribute to it on the song First of July. Josh used to front a punk rock outfit, but Vikings is creating rhythmic synth pop music designed to get you onto the floor moving to the danceable beats instead of moshing! We talk about how the group's rich rhythmic music gets created and how things work with two brothers (James and Dave McNabb) in the band.
